Riding the Pine...

It's a great figure of speech especially in this case. No, we weren't benchwarmers. Yes, we were champions!!

Last night were the finals for our softball league which was broken into an A and B division for play-offs. We were the first team in the B division finishing .500 for the year which is pretty damn good. And we had the honour of being the only team to not get mercied by the big boys from the old A division. Actually, we kept some of the games quite close and only lost by 2 runs both times we played Stir the Pot which took the A division title last night as well.

Even before play-offs started we knew we would meet our arch rivals in the finals...the Pine Riders. It would have been a shock if either team hadn't made it through. We decided to make it close by forfeiting our first game vs. iTeam due to a car breaking down with 4 of Sliders in it but we battled bat and won the rest of the games that night.

Last night was a hay day! Everyone was jacked to play and we all came with our "A" game. One bad inning led us to a first game loss 13-11 but we kicked them where it hurt the 2nd and 3rd games winning 16-5 both times.

The games were everything you could have hoped for - shooting the box (them not us), kicking the bats (again them, not us), drinking beers during the game (I think you got it - them not us), and arguing (okay, on both sides). Our favourite army pant wearing friend Kevin even pulled a grade two move on us when he was on first base after ripping another one up the middle. He called "time" and said that Cordog was chirping him and trying to egg him on...I guess Cordog called him a bad name and didn't like that. Ahhh little Kevy had his feelings hurt and had to cry to Santa! ;) The umpires were also on a huge power trip - maybe Santa thought he was umping the World Series, I'm not sure but all in all it was exactly what was expected.

And I enjoyed every second of it.

Another season in the books, this one as champions. It feels pretty good and I can't wait until next year.
