Collections

Most people have something they collect, whether it is a closet fetish or a hobby everyone knows about. As most of you probably know I collect shotglasses. I don't know when I began to "officially" collect but the oldest one I have was from back in 1992, at a National bowling tournament in Winnipeg. It has Mickey Mouse on it and is more of a shot "mug" than a glass. Since then I pick up a shotglass everywhere I visit and request them from all friends and family that go to exotic or not so exotic destinations. I would love to have one from every country, state, province and unique place in the world.

My collection has grown to 104 and I think that's quite impressive (considering I don't consider myself a world traveller). Thanks to all who have contributed and thought of me on their travels. While I have some glasses from the same place every one is different and unique, and I can tell you who gave them to me and what they were doing there. Each represents a memory and a story. I have them on the wall in our dining room and I know it's getting a bit crowded but eventually Dave will build me a really cool cabinet that will do them justice.

I'm going to try and keep this an on-going post for all collectors. Post what you collect and what you have and maybe you might get some people helping to build your collection.

Injured by Rudeness

Last Monday morning (one of the first bad days we have had) I was casually walking across the street after getting off the subway when a woman in a hurry pushed me and I fell to the ground (not being prepared for a shove to the back). Looking at my thumb I knew it had jammed and since the swelling didn't go away I had to get x-rays and am now visiting the chiropractor regularly for ultrasound and lasering. It's not broken and they're calling it a "sprained strain" but I have it in a beautiful black splint and can't use my thumb at all which makes many easy tasks rather annoying and sometimes daunting. So, to the woman who pushed me while trying to catch the bus on the other side - I hope you're happy and I hope you got to where you were going in such a rush on time.

It leads me to question the moral standards that our society lives by today. One too many times have I seen young people turn their heads on the TTC as an elderly walks on so they don't have to offer their seat, hardly anyone ever says thank you for holding the door anymore, and the kids in high school - well, I don't even know where to begin. It's bad enough the schools don't teach grammar like they did when our parents were younger but now a large chunk of society can neither talk nor walk like decent human beings. What is the world coming to?

Life . . . as Champions

Friday was the first night in a while when the girls got together for nothing but pure junk-food eating, gossiping, and chick-flick watching. It was a great time and made me realize how much I enjoy those times especially when everyone is so busy and it takes a month of planning to get together for a few hours. Saturday night Dave and I were in a curling tournament with Denise and Chris at their curling club. Brian gave Dave a pep talk before we left, reminding him that we had to "Defend the Title" since the last two times Bri and Dave played they won (yes, it helps having a couple of Allsop ringers on the team). Well, filling in for the first position, I have to say - I helped bring the belt back home for another year.

Who knew curling was such a strain on parts of the body. After playing seven ends, throwing 14 rocks, and sweeping the rest of the time, wow does your body ache. Maybe it's the fact that we don't regularly curl or use those muscles, or maybe it's that we're not getting any younger but when it hurts to sit down and stand back up you know you've got a problem. At least it was worthwhile - a great chance to catch up with the fam, prevail as champions, and experience something new. They say after 48 hours is when you feel it the most . . . I definitely can't wait.

Addiction or Purely Amusement?

Some may say that I have an addiction but I have been wondering when the line is drawn and when something you enjoy doing actually becomes an addiction. Who classifies this? Why do some people get to assume you are addicted or obsessed? I think this is a definite thin line and one that should be considered carefully before throwing out the "A" word.

Yes, it's true - I enjoy this a little too much, a large majority of my free time at home is spent doing this and if it wasn't blocked at work, I would do it there too. I haven't done it at anyone else's house but maybe if the opportunity presented itself and I was bored enough I just might do it there as well.

I wouldn't call it an addiction but more of just something that keeps me amused. I like the challenge of besting the last and beating the clock. Some of you may know what I'm talking about because you have been witness to me doing it or at least heard the clicks of the mouse. Yes folks, I'm talking about a goody but an oldie, something I'm sure many of you used to play but gave up on because of the technological advancements of the X-Box's and Playstations. I want to bring it back and I challege you all to take 5 minutes from your day and go back to when life was less complicated.

On your desktop, just click on "Start" and under Accessories click on "Games" and go to "Minesweeper" - don't be afraid, relish it and enjoy it.

Life, Thoughts and Attitude

I thought that since I spend so much time reading other blogs I may as well join in on this crazy cult phenomenon. I don't know how long it will last or keep me entertained but we might as well see how it goes.

It's not like I really needed another reason to stay on the computer after being on it all day but this is a great chance to give everyone glimpses into our life and thoughts, with a side of sarcastic and youthful attitude.

Hang on and enjoy the ride . . .
